CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE

                     GOVERNOR OF EAST JAVA PROVINCE OF REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA

                          ON THE OCCASION OF INDONESIA PHOTO EXHIBITION
                                        BY MR.TOH,JIN-GYU.

        JUNE 1-6 2004 AT CHOSUN GALLERY,  SEOUL AND  JUNE 9-14 AT  DAEGU


    I have the honour and delight to deliver my heartfelt congratulation on the occasion of the Indonesia Photo Exhibition in Seoul and Daegu Which is initiated by  Mr. Toh  Jin-Gyu.

    Since Indonesia and Korea signed the Cultural Cooperation Agreement on November 28, 2000, the two countries promote much to develope cultural exchange program in many field.

    nevertheless, since 1996, East Java preceded to have a close and fruitful relationship with Gyeongnam as a sister province. The photo exhibition organized by  Mr. Toh is a concrete form of cultural cooperation amid two people.
    therefore I believe two nations and the people     feel more close about Indonesia.

    For your information, there are about 500 ethnic groups in Indonesia spreading from Sabang, in northen Sumatra, to Merauke,  in Papua,  which have maintained their traditions, languages and dialects.

    Though we are unified as Indonesia nation as the Indonesia's  motto says : " Bhineka Tunggal  Ika" or " Unity in differential".


    On this time, the great Bromo Mountain in East Java, Indonesia,  will be specially depicted through photo exhibition. and through  Mr. Toh's  remarkable photographs,  viewers will be able to feel the greatness and beauty of Bromo mountain while the local inhabitants performing their everyday activities and performing ritual according to their faith.
    he also captured     every aspects of the Bromo mountain into smallest detail,  resulted a complete perspective and understanding towards the object of the exhibition.

    The largest annual offering ceremony of kasada is held on the 14th day of kasada,  the twelfth month in the Tenggerese calendar.
    It is a dazzling event where villagers from the     surrounding areas bring their humble offering to the holy volcano. people believe that the God of Fire live and guard them from the evil there.

    Mr.Toh has brought out the photos in an excellent manner that I have to congratulate him.

    I also thank him for organizing this exhibition,  which I am sure the public in Seoul and Daegu will appreciate.

    I wish  Mr. Toh  every success not only on his business venture but also in his profession of photography.

    Lastly, to experience all these interesting and exciting moments captured in  Mr. Toh's  photographs,  we are welcome to have your visit to Bromo mountain and other points of interest in East Java.

저는 사진작가 도 진규에 의해서 기획되어진 서울과 대구에서 열리는 인도네시아 사진전시회 행사에 대해서 진심 어린 축하를 전할 수 있어 매우 기쁘게 생각합니다.

2000년 11월 28일 인도네시아와 한국이 문화 협력 합의서에 서명한 이후, 두 나라는 만은 분야에서 문화교류 프로그램을 개발을 촉진하여 왔습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 1996년 이후, 동 자바는 자매 지방으로서, 경남과 친밀하게 그리고 결실 있는 관계를 가지기 위하여 앞장서왔습니다.

그에 의해서 계획된 그 사진 전시회는 두 나라 국민들 사이에 문화협력의 구체적인 형태로 여겨집니다. 그러므로 저는 두 나라와 그 국민들이 인도네시아에 관해서 더 친밀하게 느낄 것으로 믿습니다.

귀하를 위한 정보로써, SABANG으로부터 PAPUA에 있는 MERAUKE까지 널리 퍼져서 전통과 언어 그리고 방언을 지키며 살아가고 있는 약 500여 개의 민족 집단들이 있습니다. 비록 우리는 인도네시아 국가로 통일되어졌지만, 인도네시아에는 “Bhineka Tunggal Ika" 또는     다르게 통일되어졌습니다“라는 속담이 있습니다.

지금, 인도네시아, 동 자바에 있는 THE GREAT BROMO MOUNTAIN은 사진전시를 통해서 특별하게 묘사 되어질 것입니다. 그리고 그의 주목할만한 사진들을 통해서, 관람객들은 지역 소수민족들이 그들의 신념에 따라 의식을 이행하고 일상생활을 하면서 살아가는 모습을 볼 수 있는 한편 BROMO MOUNTAIN의 위대함과 아름다움을 느낄 수 있을 것입니다. 그는 또한 전시회의 목적에 대한 완전한 이해를 할 수 있도록 BROMO MOUNTAIN의 작은 세부적인 부분에 이르기까지 모든 측면을 사진에 담았습니다.

KASADA의 가장 큰 연례 행사는 TENGGERESE 캘린더의 12번째 달, KASADA의 14번째 날에 개최되어 집니다. 이 것은 그 주변 지역 마을 주민들이 신성한 화산에 그들의 겸손한 봉사를 하는 휘황찬란한 행사입니다. 그리고 사람들은 그곳에 불의 신이 살며 악으로부터 그들을 보호한다고 믿고 있습니다.

훌륭한 방법으로 사진들을 발표하므로 그에게 축하를 하고자합니다. 또한 전시회를 여는 것에 대해 서 감사하며 서울과 대구의 시민들은 높이 평가할 것이라고 확신합니다. 저는 그의 사업뿐만 아니라 사진작업에 있어서도 성공하시기를 바랍니다. 마지막으로, 그에 의해서 포착되어진 모든 재미있고 그리고 흥미로운 순간을 경험하기 위하여, 동 자바에 있는 BROMO MOUNTAIN과 다른 흥미로운 곳에 대한 귀하의 방문은 환영되어질 것입니다.
